Good intentions: how to make them real

We all have some good intentions, in particular when we are approaching to a new year.

It can happen therefore that all that we could not do in the last 10 years suddenly seems essential and urgent, such as for example weight loss, quitting smoking, do sports, improve our relationships.

But if you realy think to being able to do these things, that for years have been your good intentions, in a day you can fell anxiety and stress, and you risk to get the opposite result.
If we really want to change something in our lives we must first do not run away from ourselves and understand how and why we cling to bad habits: understanding them and knowing them is the first step to accept ourselves with our defects.

I wrote "Accept" not "approve": accept means have a look clean and clear in ourselves. In fact only if we accept our defects we can change them.

Every moment is a good time to change, every moment is the right time to improve our health and, more importantly, our ability to manage our lives instead of being dominated.

Our health is largely under our control, is an our responsibility. The wellness is not beyond our reach: healthy lifestyles and personal decisions can make the difference between health and disease, we can chose to follow a healthy diet, learn to handle negative emotions, begin a physical activity, improve the relationship with ourselves and with others: these things can really revolutionize our lives and our health .

But how do you change?

First of all we must not worry to any failures of the past: we must use them to our advantage to learn from them. Then we have to understand where we was wrong and also why. It is through a careful analysis of our weaknesses we can become stronger.
We must also forgive ourselves for what we did , so we must be sweet with us, but also firm and determined. We must be patient, consistent and do not be lazy. The change requires our energy and our enthusiasm.

Happiness in our actions and confidence in ourselves are the keys to change. Whatever is our goal we should rejoice just for have a goal and concentrate on how our lives will be once we reached it, and not on suffering that may accompany the process of change.
For example if we want to quitting smoke our thoughts should not be focused on fear of withdrawal symptoms or it will be much stronger and more unmanageable than it would if our thoughts are focused on the joy of freedom from smoking.

The change must be handled in small steps but in a conscious way, healthy and shiny.
The constancy produces results: what we do every day will change our lives and our health.

Constancy, perseverance, determination, confidence, joy, are the bases to succeed in what we want, even in relationships that are always a major factor for our welfare and our health.
We will discover that when we start to correcting bad habits, something magically moves and, in the months, we can find us also changed in a very deep in tastes, in habits and in defects. This will make possible and easy also others substantial changes.
We must not lose hope of getting better. We must not lose the opportunity to change, even gradually, our own life.

Really nice Hub truly speaking of hope for the good changes that must be made in our lives. You have very rightly put that we must let go of the worries about our past failures and instead understand where it all went wrong. We must bring about the change with our own step by step efforts.

Loved reading the whole Hub.Nice thoughts!!!

What a great example about quitting smoking and focus. It's also about gettiung over one road block at a time and not about seeing all of the road blocks.

Very useful hub.

fucsia, Good intentions often suffer a bad reputation because of the phrase, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." I think that unconsciously that phrase sabotages good intentions for many of us.

Thank you for giving good intentions the respect that is their due. Just as the journey of 1000 miles starts with that first step, so dreams begin with good intentions.

These two sentences which you wrote describe perfectly the setting of good intentions: "We must not lose hope of getting better. We must not lose the opportunity to change, even gradually, our own life."

I appreciate your hubs so much. It is clear that you have lived them, felt them, explored them, and learned from them.

Many thanks, with kind regards and best wishes for the holidays and thereafter, Stessily
